The US loses almost 6 out of 1,000 babies–this means that about 1 out of every 200 babies will die (Ely & Driscoll, 2019).
This rate is even higher in Ohio, at about 7 out of every 1,000 babies (Ohio Department of Health, 2019)
Ohio African American babies die at a rate of about 16 per thousand (Ohio Department of Health, 2018).
Why is this happening?
Women need to be able to get prenatal care. They need to learn about their pregnancies. They need resources to become their most healthy selves through access to food, housing, insurance, and substance abuse treatment. When women thrive, so do their babies!
Why could an app help?
Research shows that moms would be open to using an app to learn about their pregnancies and health.
An app can do things that people can’t. Apps don’t judge moms. They are not in a hurry and they do not sleep. Apps know where things you need are, and can give directions.
